Rezekne Academy of Technologies

ABOUT US

Rezekne Academy of Technologies (RTA, www.rta.lv) is a regional higher education institution founded in 1993. As a regional higher education institution it makes a significant contribution to economic, mental and cultural development of the region and state. The aim of RTA is to provide academic and professional higher education in compliance with the science development level and cultural traditions of Latvia being competitive in the European education space; to develop regional economy, science and education in Latgale and thus in the whole Latvia.

RTA has 15 study directions with more than 40 study programs and 30 lifelong learning programs. On average 2000 students are studying annually. It is a state established regional higher education institution that offers academic and professional education on bachelor, master and doctoral level in fields of engineering, information technologies, computer science, metal processing, mechanics, electronics, business, economics, manufacturing, teacher training, philology, history, law, art etc. The number of graduates has reached 10 thousand since starting its operation in 1993. Today RTA is modern higher education institution with newly built engineering faculty, renovated Pedagogical institute that celebrates 90 years anniversary. RTA has more than 210 partners abroad offering high rates of students and staff mobility. RTA develops interdisciplinary study programs, establishing dual degree programs. The EC has granted RTA the Diploma Supplement hallmark. The academic knowledge and professional competence of RTA involve solving regional issues, transferring their knowledge and innovations to the field of study in cooperation with state and local government institutions, NGOs, and the development of recommendations for regional planning and policy implementation.

Important structural unit of RTA is Research Institute for Regional Studies (RIRS). RIRS is the only scientific institution in the Baltics that deals with the development of regional studies as a new scientific area, implementing regional policy of the European Union and promoting the development and sustainability of the region. RIRS performs scientific research and pedagogical activities and participates in the implementation of doctoral study programmes.

The mission of Rezekne Academy of Technologies is to provide educational, research and innovation services in the fields of engineering and social sciences, which are internationally competitive and significant for Latgale region sustained development.

RTA develops interdisciplinary study programs, establishing dual degree programs, such as joint Master Study programme “Laser technology” with Mittweida University in Germany, Joint master programme “Regional economy” with Polotsk State University in Belarus, Hospitality Management Joint Study Programme with Utenos Kolegija (Lithuania), European Joint Masters in strategic border management with European Agency for Management of Operational Cooperation at external borders of the EU member states (FROTEX).

RTA is highly interested and committed to the outcomes of the Project adopting the innovative methods of civil engineering, increasing quality of Engineering Education. RTA will provide best suitable personnel with relevant duties in study process as well as experience and skills in introduction of new processing applications and adopting them in the HEI study courses “Construction, 1st professional level – building supervisor” as well as master programme “Environmental engineer” with professional degree in Environment protection and environment engineer qualification.

OUR SKILLS

RTA prepares and educates professionals in field of construction for 5 years (1st level) in the eastern region of Latvia. RTA has cooperation agreement with Rezekne Vocational school for joint curricula implementation and change of tutors and share of infrastructure in the process of education programme “Construction”.

Project management team from RTA will consist of 4 persons. Two of them are academic personnel involved in teaching of programme “Construction”, technical assistant for coordination of project activities, and professor with many years experience in project implementation, experience in 7 projects during last 10 years (Leonardo da Vinci, Tempus, Grundtvig, Erasmus+).

Project management team will use infrastructure of RTA, such as laboratories, auditoriums, conference and seminar rooms, office and laboratory equipment during implementation of the project.

As prorector of university he had been implementing the administrative and financial monitoring of European projects. University lecturer for more than 40 years in the fields of physics, mechanics, statics, thermodynamics, innovative optical and laser technologies, acoustics, environmental protection. He also has experience in developing and implementing new training modules and learning programmes for academical and professional studies. He has developed a network of different partners from the fields of education, research, and industry in the European area.

MG.CHEM., LECTURER ĒRIKA TEIRUMNIEKA

Erika Teirumnieka has experience in developing and accreditation of new training modules in the field of engineering education. Erika Teirumnieka is lecturer in such subjects as Physical and chemical processes in the environment, general and inorganic chemistry, chemistry, physical and colloidal chemistry engineering, Biological Tissue, organic and analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry and control, Material science, environmental protection framework. As dean of RTA Engineering faculty she has many years of experience as administrative and financial manager of European projects.

She also has experience in work with youth, in working in team, and in coordination of activities with international partners.

ASSISTANT ANTONS PACEJS

His areas of technical expertise include: Photonics, Laser processing, 3D modeling, Mechatronics (CNC Machinery, Robotics, Electronics, Physics). Participated in European Connections in Digital Arts- EUCIDA project, where was responsible for organizing activities in the field of laser technologies and also was working with participants and introduced them with laser technologies through the workshops and lectures. Attended to the “Laser technologies” summer school in Rezekne academy of Technologies. As well as he is giving lectures and workshops (In RTA mechatronics and laser laboratories) for youths and pupils on topics like Basics of Physics, Programming, Electronics and Laser technologies. In beggining of 2020 will get a degree in engineering.

In 2015, the first Master’s study program “Laser Technologies” in the Baltics was established at the Rezekne Technology Academy in cooperation with the German Laser Institute Institute (Laserinstitut Hochschule Mittweida).

This program allows students to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge in physics, photonics, optics and laser technologies. Although this sector is relatively new, there is a great demand in Europe for professionals who not only work with equipment, but also know the physical processes under way. Nowadays, laser technology can be increasingly found in manufacturing, medicine and elsewhere. Laser technologies are widely used in material handling, research, communications and information technology. As a result, they have a wide range of applications across a wide range of farm sectors.

Laser technologies and photonics are considered to be one of the six most important key technologies of the European Union (Key Enabling Technologies – KETs). It is also expected that Europe will continue to pay particular attention to the effective and KET-oriented research and development of research institutions in order to promote the development of key technologies and their commercial and industrial use. These basic technologies, including laser technologies, have great potential to boost economic growth by increasing product competitiveness, generating products with higher added value, leading to new jobs.
